Development work for the world's biggest telescope has started in Chile

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet on Friday initiated the development of the Extremely Large Telescope, which researchers say will be the world's biggest optical and infrared telescope once it is finished. The ELT is being worked by the European Southern Observatory and will have a fundamental mirror that is 39 meters in width, announced PTI.

The ELT is relied upon to begin operations in 2024 and will be based on top of Cerro Armazones, a 3,046-meter high mountain in Chile. The telescope is additionally intended to be versatile, in that it can revise climatic turbulence.

The ELT's spectrograph is being planned and built by researchers from Oxford University. The instrument will have the capacity to take 4,000 photographs at any given moment, with moment contrasts in each. It will help researchers concentrate the arrangement and development of articles in the universe in awesome detail.
